Australia Day LANReach 2v2 and Black Ops 3v3

Australia Day... A time to reflect on our great nation and pwn nubs. GoSolid held a semi casual LAN on Australia Day asking what you wanted to play Reach or Black ops. In the end we did both!

Small and Sweet...

No, I'm not talking about lifesavers, toffee apples or Kylie Minogue. I'm referring to GoSolid's Australia Day LAN! With only 20 odd competitors it was definitely one of the smallest LANs we have held, but it sure wasn't lacking in fun filled, fragtaculous gaming excitement! A prime goal for this LAN, besides pwnage, was to test drive our new venue and iron out any kinks. We did hit a few ip snares but nothing we couldn't mend on the run. Rest assured we will be back running the show just as smooth as always in no time.

The call was put out to our hardcore members and they answered... Well some of them. We did however manage to rope in some newbies on short notice -thanks dudes. Custom games were flaring and some decided to jump into matchmaking to take the advantage of the 10Mb connection and host for once, or ten times :) Despite some late withdrawals, random attendees, and diehard Halo3 hopefuls, we mustered up the numbers to run a Reach 2v2 and a short Black Ops 3v3 comp on this semi casual occasion. Here's how it went down...

Halo Reach 2v2

The Halo Reach 2v2 Comp was run in round robin format consisting of 6 teams. A round win was achieved following a best of three game matchup to an opposing team. Players had a pool of maps to chose from in turn including four MLG maps, 3 from the Arena and Z M 4 J's secret map; a remake of Halo CE 'Damnation'... It got picked few times. From the outset there were no clear favourites. As we progressed the stars began to emerge. Here were the final standings after the round robin with the top two teams RantaPro and Glen20 progressing through to the finals.

1st: RentaPro: Stryfe - UNSC Slacker = 6wins
2nd: Glen20: v JIM v - Royalfan = 5wins
3rd: Aptitude: Aphotic - z Thynney z = 4wins
4th: Genesis: Sustained - I Dr Grey I = 3wins
5th Jem'Hadar: Z M 4 J - V I T E Z = 1win
6th: TEC: R90 TEC - iTEC vx = 0wins

It is important to note that Aptitude came close 3rd only loosing in the last round to Glen20. Some really tight games there. Well done!

FINAL: RentaPro vs Glen20
First to two wins.
These games were great to watch. Stryfe was a beast with the Sniper and UNSC Slacker raised his game to match in some moments. Glen20 was a solid team with good chemistry but Stryfe was just unstoppable on the day.

RentaPro wins 2:1 and winners took MADMAN  DVD each and a bit of cash with Stryfe taking home some win from COD too. A true FPS hero.

Black Ops 3v3

The unorthodox 3v3 matchup was creatded on the day due to some no-shows, (we still love you, just show up next time), and a population of gamers unwilling to prove their worth on LAN. In the end we were left with two teams toughing it out for cash and prizes. Team White Ops was made up of Ausboypro, Stryfe and Roman, while Exc355um, R90 and Tezza made up team TEC. Troops jumped headlong into a mixed bag of Domination, CTF and search and destroy gametypes.

While the first match of domination on firing range was tense at times, team White Ops pulled out the big guns and clocked up the win. Their cohesive chemistry could not be matched on the day and 4 landslide victories later the comp was brought to an abrupt end with Tezza pulling out to play the game he came to play, Halo 3.

We would like to thank all the GoSolid hardcore members and some newbies that came, we hope you made friends. Also thanks to our sponsor MADMAN for the support. Keep un eye out for the next event popping out on GoSolid and your local forums - tell your friends! Dont forget to check out pictures from the event below.
